Contemplating the conceptual boundaries and limitations of experimentalism in certain priviledged iterations, lukewarm explores experimentalism otherwise across different junctures, raptures, discontinuities, continuities, and the lineage of experimentalism in diverse practices, notions, places, spaces, and times. Lukewarm listens to and practices experimentalism as remembrance; as survival; as transgression; as social radicalism; as malleable; as deeply connected to our lives; as transformation; as (re)imagination; as the force that dismantles, collaborates, and embraces; as rumination; as movements; as transformative justice; as dances; as ruminating; and as prayers… Experimentalism is and can be regarded as a cacophonous change of question regarding the way we feel/hear/understand ourselves and the world around us, alongside all the changes & long-haul struggles we share with others.
Lukewarm aims to create a space of humble listening, creative-musicking, and mutual respect. The website serves as the archives and a living document for events, discussions, music, sounds, and texts. Knowing that we are residing on the territory of Pawtucket, and their neighbors, the Wampanoag and Nipmuc Peoples, and our limitations in working within the current power structures, we keep in mind and hold spaces for those who are excluded due to the ongoing legacies of dispossession, violence, neoliberal environmental extraction, and genocides, like those in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, and so on. Thus, lukewarm invites the exploration of ethical practices of experimentalism otherwise for ourselves, and for many others. We aim to implement co-creation, play, and learning diverse forms of musicking and ways of sounding & listening across a variety of sonic cultures in diasporas. Feb 16th, 6:00 pm, Affect & Sound & Touch, @zoom & 855 Commonwealth Ave, Boston, MA
Affect and sounds are so intimately intertwined in our daily lives. In the example of certain electronic musics, the tactilization of sound offers a sensory + affective convergence between touch, sonic experiences, listening (literally with yr body & not just yr ears), and embodied intimacy with the dancing crowds. In this workshop, we will talk about affect & sound & touch, and work with sonic + textual + tactile prompts and examples that inspire us to drift, feel, or perhaps dig into some untouched territories. Materials will be prepared if you join in person;;
A lot of percussive sounds, a lot of textures, a lot of sonic grains, a lot of multi-sensorial listenings, and a lot of repetitions!! open to all, no prior experience required. no need to RSVP. just DM me if you have a curious heart.
~ come & explore ! <3
